A process server is a disinterested person who delivers legal documents to a party involved in a court case. These documents may be a summons to appear, a complaint, or a subpoena calling them to testify. A certified Process Server must be registered within the county in which they intend to serve papers. Process servers can take many actions to serve papers. In most cases, the process server knocks on the person's door, confirms the person's identity, and hands the person the document. After serving the document, the process server completes an affidavit of service (return of citation) to e-file with the court.
